ROSEMARY

Rosemary R You cant close the Bellingen Hospital down that is my home town .

MARY ELLEN W

Mary-Ellen W I spent some of my youth in Bellingen...a very special place. Don't close the hospital!! We are losing too many country health services that provide healthcare to large areas.

JAN B

Jan B
An ex-boyfriend of mine who lived & had a business in Woolgoolga had a vasectomy at Bello Hospital because he didn't want to be running into his clients in Coffs hospital!! lol....was quite funny but ironic when his allocated nurse was a member of the singles social club we were both in!!!! Great Memories....SAVE BELLO HOSPITAL...

re ADAM G

Clare K
you would've waited longer at Coffs
Deanne K-C
Agree with Clare - I use to live in Bello but now in Melbourne and I can guarantee you will wait much longer in a bigger hospital. In regards to them not setting your leg right, I can understand your anger but unfortunately those things happen everywhere:(

JUDI T

Judi T
it is crazy to think about Bello hos closing... so much happens here! what about locals who don't have a car???

JOHN T

John T
Back in 2000 my daughter and a few other people were rushed to Bello Hospital after a car accident in Urunga and I'm happy to say that by the time I got there They had all been sorted and on there way home...in my experiences over the years that is the quickest emergency known to man ..Well Done Bello!...you wonderful!...

MALACHI C

Malachi C
even once after the castle party when i chopped off my heel on a rock and they stuck a needle into my bare flesh and stitched me up wasnt plesant but what would i have done if they wernt there i mite have lost my foot ay!

TERRY H

Terry H
What does the Goverment think they are doing if they keep shuting Hospitals people will have to travel to far to get help and that most sertanly mean loss of life. They need to wake up to them selves and keep this and other hospitals open insted of trying to save money just to spend it on xmass partys and goverment pay rises. We employ them not them us.

SYLVAN

Sylvan
More money for health care makes sense, not less. If the financial crisis has the government that tight-pursed, there could be cuts to other things instead... like... say... General Manager's office lifts?

SQUEE L

Squee L
it a service centre for the valley livers if theres an accdent you already have to meet the ambo halfway to bello

"GO BELLO"

JO McI

three of my kids were born in the birthing unit, bello is a special place to be born, we also run the backpackers hostel and it's so great to be able to send guests up the hill for help when needed instead of coffs as most have no transport!!! IT SIMPLY CAN'T CLOSE!!!!!

DONOVAN O

Donovan O
hey i was born there they cant shut that place down what they expect ppl from thora kalang etc to travel to coffs if they have a emergency

JENNY E

Jenny E
We most definately need our Hospital, we have wonderful staff there, who we need to keep, as they really do look after the patients while they are staying at our lovely Hospital.

SHERAN H

Save the convenience for patients, jobs for staff and the fact it will add to our work load at Coffs Base

ROZ Y

We really do need to rally together to support Coffs Harbour and Bellingen Hospitals. Lets SUPPORT EACH OTHER!

especially considering the stress already on coffs hospital! Where the heck are people supposed to go

PENEL G

Penel G
with population growth & increased tourism it seems crazy to consider closing our regional hospitals. Bellingen Hospital has provided an excellent standard of care for my family & myself over the 30 years I've lived here
We need it now .. we'll need it even more in the future.

MICHELLE Y

Michelle Y
my partner (42) and my son (15) were both born in Bello Hospital.....:) Best little hospital on the coast

JOY D-B

Joy D-B
Im with you Mark. All us Saggus kids were born at Bellingen Hospital too. And yes we all pay our taxes and should be able to keep the Bello Hospital. I'm all for keeping the Bellingen Hospital.

ADAM G

Adam G screw bello hospital i had 2 wait 3 bloody hrs with a bone stickin out the side of my leg needed thirty stitches there was no doctors they had 2 call 1 in and all the prick could do was winge that he had 2 cum in on a sunday and y didnt i go 2 coffs then they didnt get my leg straight anyway had heaps of probs with it over the yrs and later on found out he missed other fractures and now got bugger all feeling down 1 side of my leg. i no this will most likly be deleted straight away but 2 save ya own life go 2 coffs hospital

THERESA C

Theresa C I only lived in Bellingen for a year, but as a cabinetmaker, I of course was obliged to utilise the hospital for the old chisel in the hand trick. It was so excellent to have the service in town, I was in and out in a few hours with cheerful staff throughout. If I had been forced to go to Coffs Harbour, I probably wouldn't have sought medical attention at all, to my detriment. Centralisation of services has never, in my experience, brought benefits to the people of regional and rural Australia.
Theresa C Another story: I was driving home from work and, two days in a row, saw my friends car in the carpark, so I dropped in, found him quite unwell and unvisited, and was able to bring him some company and fresh fruit to ease his stay. It's community! It's SO important!

MARGIE W

Margie W   Bellingen Hospital provides an essential service for all the people that live in the district,,also provides jobs for families....why has the government targeted this hospital!!! just to save money, and cause angst for the people who live within the district.....why doesnt the government look at ways to save money within its own governance instead of shutting down essential services that has provided such a high level of care.

CHRISTINE K

Christine K
My husband Larry Kelly was born at Bellngen Hospital in 1938, his mother walked from the Aboriginal mission in Bowraville to the hospital, please keep this hospital it still gives great service by the dedicated Dr's and staff....

ROBERT M

Robert M
100% better than Coffs Harbour Campus Hospital. Better staff that treat you better and like humans

DEBBIE W

Debbie W Bellingen hospital and it`s nurses, doctors and other staff has been a great help to our family while we lived in Bello for 18 years. Please keep all country hospitals open for the community.

CONWAY E

Conway E
I was born at Bellingen hospital on new Years Day 1965 .....the first of the year @ Bello ......that was 45 years ago now...and i hope Bellingen Hospital remains opened for another 45 years...and more...small community hospitals should stay...

JACQUI H

Jacqui H Bellingen Hospital saved my sister in laws life about 15 years ago. If she was transferred to Coffs Harbour she would not be here today to celbrate her sons wedding next week. She would not be her to enjoy her grandchildren and we would not have the pleasure of her wonderful nature and generous and artistic talents.
We should be able to provide this care to everyone! What price do they put on saving lives?

STEVE G

Steve Gr:
i was born in bello hospital in 1953 we need to save these small hospitals for all communities

YVONNE

Yvonne  E
There have just been a huge number of subdivisions approved for the town. It's absolutely vital to keep the hospital for existing residents let alone the potential new ones. What about flood times??? We can't afford to lose this vital service. I've got nothing but praise for the service the hospital has provided for myself (I had my son there 24 years ago!) and help in times of need for my friends and family.

JULIET

Juliet. Please, put place names and their significance on the photos you display duringthis campaign.....it's crazy not to name the wondrous beauty spots and locations that the hospital serves, then all can relate to it....even visitors who may have been to only one spot may join in with interest and vigour, more photos please, if I may ask, main streets, valleys and rivers, Bellingen is famous for it's beauty which ranges from the sea, to valleys to mountains......

JULIET

Juliet These places are familiar to me, but why are there no place names......it must be awfully frustrating for others.....xxxxx however do keep up the good work, one of my sons and one of my daughters were born in Bellingen Hospital.

LYNETTE R

Lynette R Lets work together and save our wonderful hospital.

I was born in Bello Hospital in 1952 and my son was born there in 1980....what is it with governments and their idea of progress??? More everything in the big city's & who cares about a little country hospital. It is an asset and should be maintained. Country people pay taxes like the city folk but get the rough end of the pinapple when it comes to govt. funding. SAVE BELLO HOSPITAL.....

SERENA W

They were so there before all the city slickers. Just deal with it, its reality and they were there before usi

RICHARD B

maybe 2000 in the town but there has been many more that have lived in bello and left and i'm sure everyone of us has been treated in that hospital. save bello hospital.

RUSTY B

Rusty B I was born in this hospital 22 years ago! As were my two sisterss

LYNETTE A

Lynette A what if a major disaster happened in the area eg FIRE FLOODS This HOSPITAL FACILITY IS DEFINATELY A MAJOR REQUIREMENT that has a good track record of saving lives and bring new ones into this world Facilities like Bellingen assists the bigger hospitals in eliminating overload with patients who have to be hospitalised and waiting for hours at accident and emergency depts This is about saving money not lives I wonder if something major happened to a well known identity and Bellingen Hospital saved them if the "tide would turn"????

HAYLEY D

Hayley D I have seen many friends, family and myself come and leave Bellingen hospital.. i have seen babies born into life and the elderly leave. Hospitals are wonderful and they were all put in their places for a reason just like Bellingen.. Tell me, whats meant to happen when a a child is bitten by a deadly snake further out of town.. sometimes all it takes is 20mins.. How long does it take to run to the phone.. wait for someone to answer a phone.. organise a helicopter.. get in the air get to the child.. attend to them and flyt back to the hospital in coffs? i think alot longer then it would be for a mother to drive their child to the hospital where they would be seen to asap. Need i say more. I say keep bellingen hospital operating.

MEGGY D

Meggy D I watched 1 of my beautful nephews born in Bello hospital.

MICHAEL M

Michael M
bello 2 bowra walk.... wow i think i did that when i was 4 or 5 or something.... kewl!

IRENE D

Irene D
Rremember when all the Aborigianl women had to walk from Bowerville to Bellingin to have their babies, through the bushes their were no roads back then, Due to my birth there, I did the back to Bower from Bellingen walk in about 1987

ROBERT C

Robert C
My Dad was on the Hospital Board for over 40 years. What about the legacy that Dr Hewitt and Dr Dunn left the community. Dr Hewitt and his botanical interests and Dr Dunn with his interest in new birthing techniques. I remember when my youngest daughter had her tonsils out in Bellingen. Something like 40 degrees and the air conditioning in the childrens ward broke down. Craig Neill's daughter was in at the same time.

REBECCA F

Rebecca F
You can take the girl out of Bellingen, but you can't take Bellingen out of the girl ;) Took my first breath in Bellingen hospital, may it live on forever!

IRENE D

Irene D yes please save Bellingen Hospital, my reason is I wasborn at that hospital

GREG & ROS S

Greg Ros S I agree save the hospital I was born there in 1954 to many smaller hospital are closing forcing the people suffering ill health and the elderly to have to travel great distance to marger hospital for treatment

SANDRA B

Sandra B Every hospital needs saving

BEK C

Bek C I have always loved Bellingen Hospital. The doctors are great, the nurses are fantastic. The staff took wonderful care of both my Grandmother and Grandfather.. I was born in Bellingen hospital and I will be sad to see it shut down :(    When I had my first miscarriage, I was scared and I didn't know what was going on. I waited at Coffs hospital for 6 hours, having not been seen to once. In the end, my Husband got sick of waiting and we drove out to Bellingen. Within 20 minutes I was seen by a doctor and put into a room.  Bellingen Hospital is not just another corporate run city hospital.. it is a hospital that is run by the community for the community!

RO C

Ro C In 1976 I had an operation there if it was not for that I may have died so keep the hospital ...plus I had 3 babies there an many injuries in the family stitched up!

JOANNE C

Joanne C I would like to throw my support behind saving Bellingen Hospital. Our son was born at Bello in 1996 it was a difficult birth, the Doctors and nurses were absolutely beautiful. My father has been to the hospital on many occasions for numerous life threatening illnesses. Without Bello hospital it may have been a different story.........The Bellinger River District Hospital is a necessity to the region

PHILLIP S

Phillip S   What do you mean save Bellingen Hospital, save it from what?,i was born there and it's a part of my creation and i will never let it die, my Mother is there at the moment and i know that all the staff, nurses and doctor's, cleaners , cooks , kitchen staff and everyone else who works there take great care with confidence to all people in need, i will be flying up on the 6th of March from Victoria, hopefully a small part of me can make a big difference, please keep me informed

TINA G

Tina G i had to take my partner up to bellingen hospital today... the service was fast and efficent, the nurses lovely and the dr on duty made him feel very at ease...thank you guys your the best...

JIM B

Jim Belshaw
Yes. I imagine all those involved like Gillian are doing the same thing. You can't always win, but it increases local support and forces those making decisions to face unpalatable facts about the costs of their actions. As part of this, the information can be used to form common messages for use by council, newsparers and others in arguing the case with politcians and officials.

TRISH W

Trish W
Not being a local, when my Mother suffered a severe stroke whilst visiting Bellingen, it was of great comfort to both myself and Mum that she had all the support of close family living in Kalang to guide her out of the darkness. I cannot imagine how much more lonely and frightening her journey would have been had she been in Coffs harbour, whichat that time had no staff to offer any support whatever! The staff at Bellingen knew the family, took a personal interest, and were accessible. Later, as a resident of Bellorana Nursing Home, the staff had hospital facilities nearby to complete the care they were able to give. If this is prompted by a suggestion that Bellingen Hospital should be closed, I'm afraid the NSW Govt. must have totally lost the plot.....are you MAD????

JENNY E

Jenny E
I worked at Bello Hospital many many years ago, when it was a wonderful place to work, it would be great if we could go back to 1962 and start all over again and hopefully be able to stop the undermining of our smaller much needed hospitals that look after our local and surrounding districts patients with the empathy and care that Bellingen hospital can provide

GRAHAME C

Grahame C
Hey Texsy, Was Margaret nursing ther in November 1949? If she was, she could of had something to do with me coming into this world.

JENNI McL

Great photo - great family - great valley - hands off our hospital - we have a wonderful community and need our wonderful doctors, nurses, midwives and hospital. How could this incompetent government justify taking away our heritage.

JOAN I

Joan I Save the hospital

SHAUNA F

Shauna F Upon reducing the size of our Hospital, the governments are putting so many peoples lives in harms way. Over the numerous times the hospital has been there for myself, my friends and my family, We have been meet with nothing shorter then wonderful, dedicated and incredible staff members. Sure the wait for help may be long at times but think what it would be like if we were forced to turn to Coffs Harbour for every little stitch or graze. In Coffs I felt so out of place, but while in Bellingen there was a sense of safety, love and security.. I was born there, as were my siblings and to take this away from us in the shire would be like losing one we love. The staff and the hospital itself is a part of us all..Dont Take This Away From Us For No Reason.... How would you like it if we took away part of your home town?? LEAVE OUR HOSPITAL BE!!!

PIP

Pip W The hospital drama is part of the strategy to make Bello (Repton, Mylestom, etc) suburbs of Coffs, through shire amalgamation, for $$$$$. The battle to save our hospital is SO important. Bello's not Coffs in culture, climate, history & BIOREGION. Coffs was built on a swamp only recently. Less than 100 yrs ago, Coffs people came to Bello to do their shopping at Hammond & Wheatley's. We MUSTN'T let the sharks Californicate our valley. Population explosion/subdivisions is part of the macro strategy - we must wake up to this. Save the hospital, & save Bello

DEAN S

Dean S my baby photo is still on the wall up there somewhere!

ANTHONY N

Anthony N I really dont understand that when a population in a area is incresing that they could consider downgrading a hospital just does not makes sense to me , the powers to be need to re-think this silly idea and hopefully commensense will prevale . Regards Tony

CONWAY E

Conway E Cheryl Sillis both my kid,s born at bellingen hospital 45 year,s ago and 41 year,s ago and i uster work thear 46 year,s ago and the doctor saved my life when i cut harf my foot off . had the op in bellingen .had to drive from thora no car linince.so save that hospital .

NATASHA H

Natasha H  Ok So Why Exactly Are They Trying To Shut It Bello Hospital Down???

KYLIE A

Kylie A My daughter Luella Adams was born in Bellingen Hospital. What's going on ????Need more info please........

MICHELLE W

Michelle W We need these local hospitals. How ridiculous when you try and make a doctors appointment and your told "in 2 weeks time" or worse still "not accepting any new patients !!!!"

MELINDA W

Melinda W I have so many memories of Bello Hospital, I was born there with the help of good old Dr Hewitt, Bacterial menigitis, Broken bones, allergies and many more... Take the hospital away and you are taking away part of Bellingens history, People of Bello need the hospital......

LES-SUE

Les-Sue N-M Where do I start...memories of the Bello Hospital. Well I've been in the emergency dept a far few times with stacks off the bike...... and a broken nose, also with my brother's many car accidents (poor Mum), all hours of the morning. Then I had my first job in the front office, that was in 1987, I was 16 yrs old.............what a great start to my working career, never forget it and the people. My Nephews and Neice were born there. My grandparents were in Hartley House and Bellorama till they passed. What a great place on the hill Bello Hospital is.

TEXSY LEE

Texsy Lee R
my grand mother margaret glyde's picture is in bellingen base hospital that picture was taken when she was younger that me i am 30 years old my grandmother pic is in bellingen base and she is the only nurse with a darker colour when the other nurses have white on she delivered the sara quads and the government wants to take that away from my nan and history am i wrong to feel like this to destroy history of bellingen

MARGUERITE

Marguerite M
the 21st century is about community or common unity! Lets show that people do have power when they unite against self serving government and their one dimensional perspective....

CLEO

Cleo
So many times I have used Bellingen Hospital, when my kids were growing up here in the town, when my father suffered a major stroke while visiting here, and for myself, numerous times, especially on weekends, when there are no doctors surgeries open, and I have needed care. I would not be able to drive to Coffs Hospital when I myself am sick, but five minutes up to the hospital I can handle.

CARLY W

Carly W
Bello Hospital is needed for many reasons. As a farming based community these people need emergency care close by. I can recall over the many years I attended Bellingen Pony Club if a kid had fallen they were cared for well by the close by hospital. This also brings to mind the other sports which are based in the area where accidents occur. The hospital is needed not only for the care but as a basis of jobs in the area.

CORINA L

Corina L-j
i had some issues and bello hospital doctors and staff were incrediable in my dark hour.... why should anybody from bello and surrounding areas have to make there way to coffs harbour hospital when those of us that have been in bello no full well that the staff and the way coffs is run is absoulute shit compared to these smaller country hospitals.... stop making things harder for people, being comfortable in ur surroundings is a huge part of recovery!!!!!

PAIGE A

Paige A I live locally and have needed to use the emergency dept several times
over the past 8 weeks due to an ongoing medical problem . Everytime i
was met with understanding nurses and doctors who were not only
helpful but genuinely sympathetic and quick to do all they could to
provide pain relief and medication. The wait in the emergency room
wasnt so bad, each time a nurse coming out and making sure we were ok.
I cannot say in words how much i appreciate all of the staff at the
hospital and the security of knowing that they are close by should any
problems occur in the future. I live in Urunga and am still trying to
understand why the hospital would be taken away from our residents (
many of them elderly ) .We need to keep the hospital open. The last
time i was in Coffs Hosp it took over 5 hrs to see someone. I cant
imagine what that wait would be like for an elderly person , not to
mention how they would get there if they didnt call an ambulance.
PLEASE keep our hospital.

CLAIRE H

Clare H I've had tonsils removed, asthma attacks attended, knees scraped for gravel rash when I got too adventurous, brothers who have had motorbike accident damages repaired, friends who have had children there, so many many occasions when the hospital has supported myself and loved ones. We need to reverse the centralised care and keep the real hospitals alive - they are life lines for our communities....

TAMMY S

Tammy S Bellingen Hospital must stay open, My whole family have needed this hospital for one thing or another...Fevers, Stitches, and so on.....The people of Bellingen can't be expected to get to Coffs Harbour for treatment.....SAVE BELLO HOSPITAL!!!!!!!

MICHELL M

Michelle M Absolutely Mitch! at least a 15-25 min trip to Coffs hospital!! Will cost lives & the health of many. Plus will add even more stress to the already overloaded waiting time at Coffs. Bellingen hospital must stay open.

JANITA J

Janita J That hospital is an icon, I had my tonsils out there when I was 4, I can still remember the red jelly and ice cream... Bello hospital is also famous for the birth of the Sara Quads.....

LYNNE L

Lynne L    Mans inhumanity to man. Why? It may save dollars, but it makes no sense. Lives will be put at risk. The government cry out they are helping people in the bush and in the country, they care about our health. Well bloody prove it politicians get off your back sides and make a stand for Bellingen Hospital!!

MITCH G

Mitch G I was born there and i cant really remember much about that, but i do know that if your in bellingen and your hurt, you're not going to want to wait 15-25mins to get a loved family member or cherished friend to CHBH (Coffs Harbour Base Hospital) and what is the harm with it there anyway? Another thing, Bellorana Aged Care is right next door. How handy :)

LOUISE I

Louise I my bro was involved in a motorbike accident recently, the staff were great and without the hospital running i think it would just be a tragedy, the town needs this hospital and its sad to think services are being reduced, we need to pull together and keep it running, its important that we support this cause!!

JIM B

Jim Belshaw Has anybody local thought to pass onto the Courier-Sun the story of this Facebook page? It's really been quite remarkable and would, I think, make a pretty decent paper story.

LEIGH

Leigh A- DeJ I live on the Gold Coast but have family that live in Urunga.Whilst visiting I became ill and was taken by Ambulance to Bello Hospital.I CANNOT complain about ANY of the treatment I received. The staff were lovely and extremely caring. With parents who are in their sixties,it is reassuring to know that "IF" anything happened to them Bello Hospital was close by and they would be treated with care by a great group of proffessionals...KEEP BELLO HOSPITAL OPEN..

ANNE MARIE B

Anne Marie B Both my children were born in Bellingen Hospital 1990 & 1991 My poor lod Dad died there so there is a begining and ending and we were all looked after!!!!

Because the teens need a place to go when they get too drunk and have alcohol poisoning don't get me wrong, i'm not condolling our behaviour, but regardless of what anyone says, we're still gonna do it.. That's another reason why we need the hospital :)

ART J

Art J
Local emergency, treatment, hospital services are vital, if not only to save a life, but so treatment and care can be administered, within a reasonable distance of family or friends.

HALYZ N

MICHAEL M

Michael M COZ I WAZZA BORN THERE!!!!!!!!!! :D + many other profound and more important reasons!. :)

NINA E-B

Nina E-B I was born there, went on field trip there and had a needle in my ass there, so i hope it stays!!

CANETOAD R

Canetoad R I suppport the hospital. Over seven years I heard all about its history as Mum wrote it up in a book. From its opening in 1903 the hospital has served the people of the shire and beyond and with such a heritage it must be given the opportunity to continue to do the good. Making money from health does not make sense.

KRISTEN

Kristen
Where else can u go to have a baby and be told your doctor is in the hospital and should be with u soon she is just ex-raying her sheep's leg.

Kristen S
then have that same doctor drop off there kids at school and inform u that your sister is born.

LEANNE S

Leanne S Bellingen needs this Hospital without it I would hate to think what would happen. The Hospital and the staff have always looked after me and my family.

JULIE S

Julie S Our youngest daughter was born in Bello hospital in 2002. The staff are so very warm, friendly and easy going...it was a beautiful experience. Our whole family has been patched up there a few time over the years and it would be a true tragedy to see such a wonderful institution become a mere memory. Its almost impossible to find a hospital as dedicated to its patients anymore and i belive wholeheartedly that is the warmth of the staff and the facility that helps patients recuperate so quickly there. Coff hospital has never been able to, no ever will match the standard of care at Bello.

BEC R

Bec R
OMG... WAKE UP,BELLINGEN HOSPITAL SAVED MY LIFE!!! I had to have my son delivered at Coffs Base hospital, however we were tranferred to Bellingen the next day at my request, coffs was unbearably noisy andthe night nurse wasuseless to non-existant.I spent a loverly 5days in Bellingen on the ward but not long after I arrived home spiked a huge temperature and was back in there again. The Bellingen hospital medical team SAVED MY LIFE!!!!!EVERYONE LISTENING NOW???!!!! If Dr Gina Cirillo and the fantastic dedicated nurses hadn't diagnosed the retained product infection so quickly....If the hospital wasnt so close....I WOULD BE DEAD NOW and MY SON would have grown up WITHOUT HIS MUM ! It's a no-brainer, BELLINGEN HOSPITAL STAYS.

Nissa A
I was born in bello hospital and my daughter would have been to if there wasn't complications. Not to mention that we have fantastic nursing staff there u just don't get that any where else :)

LYN S

Lyn S Hey guys... you have our support. I live near Gulgong, so if Your hospital is in danger of going, what does it say about ours- with a tiny 3 bed emergancy ward???

MARIA F

Maria F My biggest fear having my first child was not making it to hospital in Coffs as I live in Dorrigo. Bureaucrats have no idea what it is like for regional communities, we are just numbers on pages.

SYLVAN

Sylvan D We simply cannot have this hospital closed down. The service is essential to all those in a medical emergency. Our population has increased many times over throughout our short history, and is set to increase even faster over the next century. Meanwhile, climate change rears its head and we are facing probably more common and more severe flooding every year! Do the math - medical services CANNOT be delayed for ANOTHER 20 minutes, just because the government is too cheap to care for our needs. This is not on, and it WILL be a vote changer, count on it Council!

KAYT H

Kayt H I grew up in Bello, was patched up, operated on, and generally really well looked after. If Bello needed a hospital when it was a small country town why all of a sudden doesn't it need one now thats its quiet a large country town with a population that has probably trebled over the last 20 years? Its illogical.

PIP

Pip W We must save it! My memories of it over many years are many, varied & sometimes funny. I've been in-patient & out-patient. My son was born there, with excellent care. Decades ago, one doctor, notorious for hating 'hippies', laughed & called a nurse over to watch as he deliberately & unnecessarily hurt me badly with a scalpel. Another doc forgot I was his patient, so I was in traction for 11 instead of 4 days. So many memories. But we must save our hospital, and save Bello from the plans to make our place a dormitory suburb of Coffs. This is part of the larger plan of shire amalgamation.

CAROL L

Carol L My three grand children were born in Bellingen Hostpital and all the Doctors and Staff have always been there for me when I neeed there help SOOOOOO p[LEASE don't close our wonderful hostpital down as the whole Community needs the doors to be kept opened.

My parents were born there, My 6 siblings and I were born there, both my parents were there in the last stages of their life and I went there numerous times for emergencies over the years...How ridiculous to imagine that the long waiting time for a place at Coffs Harbour could cope with the patients from Bellingen Fernmount and the surrounds of Bellingen...How would the patients from Bellorana be cared for? A 25 minute trip to Coffs every time they need medical treatment...What next, Doctors leaving for want of a hospital, people leaving for want of medical care and a Government that has no idea of what on earth they are doing because they never look at the communities being affected by their stupidity!!!

ANIKO

How many times have you been stiched up or patched up at your local hospital? I have to say support save Bello Hospital cos thats where i went when i came off my bike that time and fell out of that tree and had that argument with the bullrout and.....

ZOE L

Zoe  Save our hospital!! I was there very recently after having a severe allergic reaction where my face was so swollen I couldn't see & my throat began to swell. I had to take a city boyfriend there after severe oyster cuts from the river, I've visited friends after car accidents, taken my father there for DIY mishaps... Everyone in the community has at least one story to tell shouldn't that say enough in itself? The community relies on this facility - the young, the old, mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers and our countless friends... Keep the voices heard and keep up the fight and we'll eventually achieve. I'm driving around Melbourne now with my SOS bellingen hospital bumper sticker... More publicity the better!!

BRAD

Brad  Bellingen Hospital is vital for that community. A couple of years ago when I was visiting my Grandmother in Bellingen a mishap lead to my then 2 year old daughter having a serious gash to her head. I was very glad that Bellingen Hospital was very close by. Very shortly after my Grandmother, Marj Kennedy, had a seroius fall and spent months in hospital. I am sure she and her friends and family were glad she could be close to home...

TONI

Toni  i use to go to bellingen hospital why are they shutting itndown, there alot of other ppl they dont have access to go to hospital, they should just leave the hospital alone, keep it open for ppl who need it

DONNA

Donna  Love Bello Hospital! Many memories, not all fun occasions, but always great service and wonderful staff. From seeing my baby sister in her "fishtank", collecting sugars with pictures on them during the weeks of visiting her, broken arm, concusion, and much more. Our latest visit was taking my 2yr old there for stitches while on holidays- the nursing staff and doctors were outstanding with us both!! the professional yet warm way we were treated made a tramatic morning so much better, and she hardly even has a scar- nice needlework doc!!! hope the community, and old residents like me, can save this community resource for generations to come.

INGER D

Inger D I grew up in Bellingen and the hospital is an integral part of Bellingen's identity and sense of community. Small communities need to be saved not destroyed. Keep it open

JANE S-R

Jane  I owe my life to Bellingen Hospital. Coffs Harbour is too far away when you are at risk of anaphylactic shock. It will place life's at risk by closing the hospital.

KAY J

Kay J.  Small commutities need a hospital. Whether it is for medical emergencys or day to day medical aid. Bellingen has had one of the best facilitys on the North coast for many years. Why does it need to close.

MICHELLE N

Michelle  We live halfway between Dorrigo and Ebor and it's a comfort to know that Bello hospital is there! When you are heavily pregnant and the closet large hospital (Coffs/Armidale) is over an hour anyway.............. It's nice to know you can make it halfway and be safe in the capable hands of the Bello Maternity ward. We need to save our local hospitals and make sure they don't lose services!!!

MICHELLE

Michelle  I was born at this hospital and the rest of my family were too.. SAVE THIS HOSPITAL. My Grandma and family relies on this hospital. Just what would happen if the floods come back this year just as bad and cut people off that can not get to Coffs hospital..KEEP IT GOING

JANE

Jane  This is an integral part of our community. Without it where would we be! Keep our hospital open, keep our maternity open, it caters for us all. This hospital is small enough to care for the individual, the staff are fantastic and personable. Keep it open!

Easy, we know that Bellingen needs their hospital and the officials that sit in offices with no clue have exactly that - no clue

Thanks so much Jim - that was my next search, times to other local hospitals. We need to account also for the impact on Coffs hospital and others of more patients and emergencies.. are they set up for this influx.. plus any future growth in Bellingen, Dorrigo etc areas??? All in all it bears lots more investigation before they can shut these much needed services down!!!

TERRY

Terry
What does the Goverment think they are doing if they keep shuting Hospitals people will have to travel to far to get help and that most sertanly mean loss of life. They need to wake up to them selves and keep this and other hospitals open insted of trying to save money just to spend it on xmass partys and goverment pay rises. We employ them not them us.

LILY

thats where i was born, and my niece and nephew. Pretty special place!

DARREN

Darren  My family has relied on Bellingen Hospital for the last 30+ years. It was the dedication and compassion of the nursing staff that convinced me to pursue a career as a registered nurse. I have been fortunate enough to work in some major hospitals all over Australia and overseas and I was looking forward to returning back to my childhood home and maybe working there one day. I do Hope I get that opportunity??

TRACEY

Tracey  My Gran is 96 From North Beach "Mylestom" and relies on Bello Hosp! Can't believe Gov won't cough up the goods for a never ending growing community and surrounding areas! It's a necessity! She has given so much to the community in all the years of being a local, well respected lady to all, as are so many others whom rely on the Bello Hospital!

DEB

Deb  I did my first prac there for my nursing course, I really loved it there.....it had a country feel and down to earth nurses..........I really think a community like bello needs it.........

AQUA DEAR

Aqua  At one stage I thought I'd never see the outside again. Phew. I got out in a stolen wheelchair with help from a kind farrier. Best hospital in the Universe! They let me be stubborn and refuse meds in favour of herbs!

STEPHANIE

Stephanie  I grew up getting stitched and bandaged at Bello hospital. I have also been priviledged enough to have a baby there. The birthing unit was second to none. I am now taking my children there, to be patched on the odd occasion. Where else you be in out of the ED in less than hour at 8pm at night? It is a special place

JOANNA

Joanna  In the October holidays a young family from Sydney stopped at The Point to have a swim and fun on the ropes. Their little girl cut both her feet severely on smashed bottles on the water's edge ( grrrrrr). I saw their distress and took the Mum and injured girl to Bellingen hospital. She was bleediing profusely. She made a full recovery - maybe a different story if she had to travel to Coffs....I felt proud of our wonderful little hospital and her amazing staff that greeted and attended this visiting family that day.

Mark  I was born there 47 years ago on christmas day deliverd by D.R. Eric Dunn as well as my sister and two brothers my parents were as well so were my two childern, so me and this hospital go way back

Bellingen organises to save hospital

While I have never lived in Bellingen, I have known the town all my life and written about it on this blog a number of times.
Bellingen now faces a threat to its hospital services and the locals have organised to try to save it. You will find the Save Bellingen Hospital web site here.

CATH

Cath  bellingen hospital is so important to me and all of the wider community. I assisted at two births at the hospital in the past 20 years. My family and i have all stayed in the hospital at some point in time its a vital communiity asset and should no way be down graded to a multi purpose centre like dorrigo hospital has become! Has anyone ever been to macksville hospital its so outdated and run down and unclean. Why should all the smaller hospitals continuously have therir usefull equipment relocated to coffs harbour?? the mind boggles ! outrageous to say the least. With the regular flooding that goes on in our region its beyond a joke to think a woman might need to birth a baby and the roads and bridges could be cut if you are lucky enough to get through then what... air lifted to coffs sounds ridiculous to me!...

REBEKAH

Rebekah  I was born in bellingen, my sister & brother were born in bellingen, I had my first baby in Bellingen,My sister had her first baby in Bellingen. I wanted to have my second baby there but because of the current situation was unable to.
My first baby was born quickly & with the cord around her neck, not breathing comeing from Dorrigo we never would ... See Morehave made it to coffs. Im tankfull I was allready in coffs when I went into labour with my son because he was born quicker
The Doctors & staff @ Bellingen were AMAZING when we had our first. All through my second pregnancy ( & last years floods) I was teriffied of having to make it all the way to coffs. Without Bellingen maternity services its a long way for the women up the mountain!!
I hope the marernity services can once again be offered without the consern of there being a midwife on, so that future children in my family can be born in bellingen were I, my siblings & our first babies have been born & cared for so well.
